This is a fairly unusual micropub on the edge of the town centre, set in what appears to be an old residential property. The pub has a smart, single L-shaped room interior, with bare boards throughout, walls painted in a simple two-colour scheme and a high wooden ceiling with impressive beams crossing it. The bar is immediately opposite the entrance with nothing much to the right, but a spacious seating area opens up to the left. Good quality comfy chairs serve a row of tables along the left-hand wall, with pews and banquettes in support plus some backless benches to the rear right. The bar has a chunky, timber fronted counter and a matching bar back with a row of keg taps along it. The room has been decorated in a bit of a farmhouse style, with a wagon wheel light feature, old paintings and photos around the walls, an upturned beer barrel to the front and a random collection of bits and bobs along the big ceiling beam. Music played quietly in the background and there was a muted vibe, as just two women and a child were in on my Saturday, early evening visit.
I was greeted by a friendly landlady and four handpulls which gave a choice between Cross Bay The IPA, Jester Brew 12, Titanic Plum Porter and Lancaster Blonde. The IPA turned out to be a pretty good brew and I enjoyed sipping it in one corner after the long walk here from Morecambe's football stadium.
I found this a strange experience, partly because of the remodelled home interior and partly because of the odd atmosphere created by the low attendance, but rather than feeling cliquey, I felt nicely welcomed and could have happily stayed for another had I not needed to move on. Morecambe's best pubs seem to be scattered to the four winds, so its nice to have this as a decent option close to the town centre.
